DESCRIPTION:

This is a daemon that launches after every boot to keep you hard drive alive and thus stop its *Clunk* noises due to head parking. This issue as been reported on some Mac Mini version and eeepc.

Please read the entire article about ClunKiller and other solutions HERE

INSTALL:

Run ClunKiller package installer

Open a Terminal window and type:

sudo chown -R root:wheel /Library/StartupItems/ClunKiller

Enter your password etc.

Repair disk permissions:

Repair_Disk_Permisions.png

If you do not repair permissions you'll probably see this kind of message into the Console, and ClunKiller will not run until a few hours after your next reboot:

Reboot

Now after reboot check if ClunKiller is working!

Enjoy!

UNINSTALL:

CHANGELOG:

07/08/09:

Fixed: Better script that stops *Clunk* noises every 4 sec.

Version name: 1.2

20/07/09:

Fixed: Filtering enabled for Hard Drive I/O activity.

Version name: 1.1

17/07/09:

Intelligent version! ClunKiller can now detect when it is needed to wake your Hard Drive. It also uses a new command line to wake your hard drive that doesn't make any writing noise Smile

NOTE:

ClunKiller automaticaly detects when it needs to wake the Hard Drive to stop these *Clunk* noises, as you can see on this screenshot:

ClunKiller_Reloaded.png

ClunKiller is also optimized to do not use a lot of CPU, as you can see on the folowing screenshot dtrace & sh do not use more than 0,5% of the CPU:

If you still hear some *Clunk* noises:

PLEASE READ THIS NEWS: ClunKiller - How does it work?

ClunKiller does not work for me, why?

You need a file called mach_kernel.ctfsys into your / directory to make dtrace working. If you do not have this file, try to ask people who have the same computer/OS/kernel that you use.

This is mine: mach_kernel.ctfsys.zip (But I think it will not work for you)

Try "mach_kernel.ctfsys dtrace" on Google.

If you have this file and you can still hear some *clunk* noises time to time, then I'm afraid to tell you that you need a better Hard Drive.
